Scientific Name

Lygus pratensis

Biology

Description

Adult lygus bugs are pale green to yellowish brown in colour and approximately 6 mm in lenght.  Their identifiable trait is a triangle in the middle of their back.  Lygus bug nymphs are simply smaller versions of their adults, without wings.  Damage can be quite severe as reproductive organs can be affected, resulting in reduced yields and increased vegetative growth.  Meristematic tissues may also be affected, causing the plants to grow bush like.
