What do you do to celebrate 20 years of growth, challenge, innovation and success? A good start is to reflect with those who have been with you along the journey.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of InVigor hybrid-canola, a group of top western Canadian growers and media took a trip Bayer’s Crop Science headquarters in search of answers, perspectives and stories behind the brand.

The tour guests were active AgVocates of the Canadian agricultural industry and were excited to showcase this experience with their followers along the way. The itinerary would keep them busy over the seven days, allowing them to simply taste the dedication of Bayer’s research and development activities.

Kicking off in Leverkusen and making stops in Monheim, Astene (Belgium), Cologne and Frankfurt, the tour group was able to experience the multitude of the Bayer facilities plus enjoy the welcoming German culture. As difficult as it is to narrow down the best parts of the trip, the major highlight of the trip for many was meeting Bart Lambert, Liaison Officer, or as he was better known, "The Father of the Pod Shatter Reduction Trait." Bart spoke to the group in Astene, Belgium at the Oilseed Rape Breeding Centre. Bart received a round of applause from everyone in the group. Because of him and his team’s perseverance, these farmer, and thousands of others, had benefited from the pod shatter reduction trait.

Bart even made time for an interview with, which you can listen to here:

The tour continued to Monheim with a reception from President and CEO of the Crop Science Division, Liam Condon, and other members of the leadership team. Liam expressed his sincere gratitude to all the growers for their support of InVigor and business over the past 20 years.  Tour-group member Kevin Serfas, a grower from Alberta, responded to the hosts with his own inspiring words of partnership and profitability. A familiar ex-Canadian colleague, Hartmut Van Lengerich, Head of Fungicide Assets, Cereals, Oilseeds and Rice (former President and CEO of Bayer Crop Science Canada) recounted his heart-felt experience with InVigor and Canada.

Hartmut also participated in an interview which you can listen you here:

The grower trip to Germany was an unbelievable way to celebrate and say “thank-you” to western Canadian canola growers for 20 years of commitment. Like all strong partnerships, you persevere through the hard times and celebrate in the good—but you do both together. For Canadian farmers and InVigor, this time to reflect on the journey together helped to appreciate what one-another has brought to the success of Canadian agriculture.

Bayer looks forward to being true partner to every farmer for years to come.
